How to Register for Chemistry
Introductory Chemistry:
- CHE 1101 - Introductory Chemistry I (3)
- CHE 1110 - Introductory Chemistry Laboratory I (1)
- CHE 1102 - Introductory Chemistry II (3)
- CHE 1120 - Introductory Chemistry Laboratory II (1)
Take the lecture and corresponding lab together in the first attempt.
NOTE: Chemistry 1101 and 1102 have a minimum Math requirement.
You must meet the math prerequisite OR register for a corequisite math class (MAT 1020 or higher) BEFORE registering for CHE 1101 & 1110 or 1102 & 1120.
To meet the math prerequisite, App State must have one of the following on your record:
- Verified score of 550+ on the SAT Math test (how to send your scores), OR
- Verified score of 22+ on the ACT Math test (how to send your scores), OR
- Credit for MAT 1020 or higher (pending credit is acceptable) (update your Courses in Progress)
OR
You can register for CHE 1101 & 1110 OR 1102 & 1120 with a math corequisite:
- First, register for MAT 1020 or higher (check your Program of Study to determine the correct math course)
- Then, register for Chemistry.
NOTE: Being on a waitlist for MAT 1020 or higher will NOT allow you to register for Chemistry if you don't meet the math prereq; you will have to be registered for MAT 1020 or higher BEFORE you can add CHE 1101 or 1102 to your schedule.
Chemistry for Life:
- CHE 1051 - Chemistry of Life I (3)
- CHE 1053 - Chemistry of Life Laboratory I (1)
- CHE 1052 - Chemistry of Life II (3)
- CHE 1054 - Chemistry of Life Laboratory II (1)
CHE 1051 and 1052 only require Demonstrated Readiness for College Level Math.
To meet this minimum requirement, App State must have one of the following on your record:
- Verified score of 550+ on the SAT Math test (how to send your scores), OR
- Verified score of 22+ on the ACT Math test (how to send your scores), OR
- Credit for any math or statistics class (pending credit is acceptable) (update your Courses in Progress), OR
- Score of 10 or higher on the Math Placement Test.

- New Students: talk to your advisor during your New Student Advising appointment.
- Current Students: fill out the Permit Request form.
